Mahboubeh Abbasgholizadeh ( محبوبه عباسقلی زاده) interviews Khadijeh Moghadam (خدیجه مقدم) in this episode of Safar-e Ma’na (The Journey of Meaning). Khadijeh Moghadam is one of the pioneers of Iran’s women’s movement, a long-time civil society activist, and a leading advocate of grassroots organizing and women’s empowerment. In this conversation, she reflects on more than five decades of civic engagement. ‏Our conversation begins with the years leading up to the 1979 Iranian Revolution and follows her journey through labor strikes, the Iran–Iraq War, the rise of civil society organizations, women’s empowerment initiatives, environmental activism, the women’s movement, the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising, and finally to today’s Iran in the aftermath of the Iran–Israel–U.S. war. This episode is more than a historical account. It is an exploration of a deeper question: How does one remain engaged, preserve hope, and continue creating meaning through revolution, repression, war, and profound social change? Drawing on a lifetime of experience, Khadijeh Moghadam reflects on organizing workers before the revolution, building grassroots organizations, supporting women through community-based initiatives, environmental advocacy, the One Million Signatures Campaign, intergenerational dialogue, and the role of civil society during times of crisis. She also shares her thoughts on rebuilding social trust, responding to war through community care, and sustaining human agency even under the most difficult circumstances. At a moment when Iranian society is confronting the consequences of war, political repression, and overlapping social crises, this conversation invites us to rethink the meaning of civic responsibility, solidarity, resilience, and hope. In this episode: * Growing up and becoming a social activist * Labor strikes and the 1979 Iranian Revolution * War, civil society, and community organizing * Women’s empowerment and grassroots activism * The Woman, Life, Freedom movement and a new generation * Civil society after the Iran–Israel–U.S. war * Meaning, hope, aging, and a lifetime of activism About the podcast Safar-e Ma’na (The Journey of Meaning) is hosted by Mahboubeh Abbasgholizadeh—journalist, women’s rights activist, filmmaker, and founder of the podcast. Through conversations with activists, scholars, artists, and public intellectuals, the series explores how people find meaning while navigating political upheaval, exile, social transformation, personal loss, and collective hope. Rather than focusing only on political events, Safar-e Ma’na asks a deeper question: How do we continue living, acting, and creating meaning in times of uncertainty? If you found this conversation meaningful, please subscribe to the channel, share this episode, and leave your thoughts in the comments. #SafarEMana #JourneyOfMeaning #KhadijehMoghadam #Iran #CivilSociety #WomensMovement #WomanLifeFreedom #GrassrootsActivism #Meaning #Podcast
